<i>SbD</i>-Based Synthesis of Low-Profile <i>WAIM</i> Superstrates for Printed Patch Arrays

An innovative strategy for the design of low-profile wide-angle impedance matching (WAIM) superstrates to active return loss (ARL) stability scanned microstrip-printed periodic phased arrays (PPAs) is presented. Toward this end, an instance System-by-Design (SbD) paradigm exploited and a task-oriented formulation WAIM synthesis problem proposed. More specifically, customized global optimization combined with accurate fast modeling array ARL, which based on semi-analytical approach, enable effective multilayer structures both isotropic anisotropic materials. A set representative numerical examples, concerned different microstrip patch substrates, lattices, constraints, presented give interested readers some insights features potentialities proposed implementation.
